Critical Need for Blood Donors Continues

Critical Need for Blood Donors Continues

The Community Blood Center (CBC) urges all eligible donors to schedule a lifesaving donation as soon as possible. The current supply of Type O and A blood is critically low, enough for only about 2-3 days of routine use.

Like many blood centers across the U.S., CBC has been experiencing ongoing blood shortages due to a significant drop in donations and consistent hospital demand, leading to critically low supplies of blood products.

CBC supplies blood products to over 40 local hospitals. Patients battling cancer, undergoing surgeries, and facing life-threatening emergencies rely on blood that can only come from a volunteer donor. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, yet only about 3% of eligible Americans donate annually.

“Each time you give blood you give the gift of life,” said John Hagins, President & CEO, The Community Blood Center. “There is no substitute for donated blood. It can’t be made or manufactured. It can only come from a generous volunteer donor. Help restore the blood supply to support local hospital patients by donating as soon as possible.”

CBC is extremely grateful for donors who play an essential role in helping provide hospitals with lifesaving blood products for patients in need. Saving lives can provide a very rewarding feeling for blood donors, and as a token of appreciation, CBC is also rewarding donors in another way, through Lifesaver Rewards. All donors can join by opting in to earn points throughout the donation process. Points are redeemable for gratitude gifts, including gift cards, movie ticket vouchers, and CBC merchandise.

While Type A and Type O blood are in critical need, all blood types are essential. Every donation strengthens the supply, ensuring patients have the blood they need. If you have not donated before, now is the time to make a critical difference. Each donation has the potential to save up to 3 lives and takes about an hour. Find a donation appointment near you by visiting communityblood.org, using the CBC Donor App or calling (800) 280-4102.
