Multicultural Coalition, Inc. kicks off its third annual back to school drive and asks for the community’s support in school supplies and financial donations to ensure children feel less anxiety about the first day of school.
Last year alone, more than 200 backpacks filled with school supplies were provided to families throughout Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago counties.
Studies have shown that when a child is prepared for school with the right supplies that it improves their confidence, reduces stress and anxiety, improves academic performance, increases feelings of belonging, reduces educational disparities and provides equal opportunity for education. In fact, according to a study done in 2023 by the American Psychology Association, about 75 percent of school-age children report feeling significant stress about returning to school.
“The children are thrilled to receive backpacks stuffed with school supplies. Their faces light up and you can see their excitement about entering school in the fall, with what they need,” said Maria Mason, Community Outreach Coordinator of Multicultural Coalition, Inc.
“Returning to school is oftentimes anxiety-producing for kids and this is one way we can help reduce the anxiety for children and their families,” Mason added.
Multicultural Coalition, Inc. asks the community for school supplies as listed below, shopping their Amazon Wishlist or a financial contribution to the organization’s PayPal campaign.
All item donations may be dropped off at 333 First Street, Suite D, Menasha, WI 54952 on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. If you have questions or to set a time to drop off donations, please call 920-365-4086 or e-mail admin@ourmci.org.
