October 21 event will explore the opportunities, challenges and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape classrooms and learning environments, the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh will welcome more than 150 K–12 educators, school district leaders, AI leaders and future teachers to campus Wednesday, Oct. 21, for a K–12 AI Academy focused on the evolving role of AI in education.
The event will take place at Reeve Memorial Union Ballroom, with Chancellor Manohar Singh delivering welcome remarks at 9 a.m.
The academy will bring together current and future educators to explore how artificial intelligence is influencing teaching, learning and student engagement. Discussions will address opportunities for innovation alongside important considerations involving student privacy, ethics, creativity, critical thinking and responsible technology use.
"Artificial intelligence is changing how we teach, learn and solve problems. As educators, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to explore these changes thoughtfully, together," Singh said.
The academy will feature Wisconsin school district AI leaders, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction technology consultants, instructional designers and more. Participants will explore how different AI tools expand assessment approaches, streamline lesson planning, and bring important implications to consider.
The AI panel will offer insights into how district leaders and AI experts are approaching privacy, ethics, and equity issues.  The event provides participants with opportunities to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore practical approaches to AI in K–12 education.
“Artificial intelligence creates tremendous opportunities for teaching and learning, while also raising important questions about how we prepare students and support educators,” said Dr. Kristine Nicolini, interim school director and associate dean of UW–Oshkosh's School of Education and Human Services.
The gathering provides a valuable space for educators, leaders, and partners to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and discover new possibilities together as they shape the future of education.
